Themed Family Movie Night and Menu: Peter Rabbit

Movie night is a regular event at our house.  It might come from our love of watching one of our old favorites (and quoting it the whole time), a deep need to just connect as a family, or just because we're too tired as parents to corral kids in public.  There is something so relaxing about cuddling up under mounds of blankets, eating snacks, and laughing (or crying) together during a movie.
A few week's ago, the kids chose the movie Peter Rabbit.  The boys and I had seen it at the theater during Spring Break while my daughter was in Chicago with her cousins and they couldn't wait for her to see the bunnies dance or McGreggor get thwacked in the face with a garden rake.
If I've got enough energy, I usually try to create a menu themed around the movie.  This week's movie menu was easy.  You've got an iconically British story and rabbits stealing veggies from the garden.

I recently re-learned that mini sandwiches cut into fun shapes is magical to a picky 4-year-old.  The kid will normally ONLY eat peanut butter and honey sandwiches.  But cut a meat and cheese sandwich into stars and they suddenly taste like gold!  After he had devoured 2 of the ham and cheese sandwiches, I threw together a roast beef and cheese sandwich with spinach...yes, SPINACH!  Guess what?  He ate that cute little star sandwich without so much as a second glance.
Throughout the whole movie, good old Peter Rabbit is constantly thinking up plots to get his grubby little paws on Mr. McGreggor's crudites.  The veggie platter was a no-brainer!  Fun little mom-hack though is to cut the veggies in different shapes.  Again, what my 4-year-old will NOT eat if it is a stick, he WILL magically eat if it's a circle.  Go figure!
I happened to have some extra cheese laying around after I had assembled all of the sandwiches, so I threw some crackers on the cheese plate and served it up.   I also raided the pantry to find some green Gatorade, which fit the theme perfectly.
Just as the boys figured, my daughter loved the movie!  My parents also stopped by and ended up getting drawn in and loving the movie too!  We'd highly recommend it for families who need a movie that's appropriate for preschoolers and middle schoolers.
